The holidays are over and now we settle into winter. With January comes a new year with resolutions to be more intentional about our health. Most people don’t include hearing health in their resolutions, but here are a few reasons you should!

How well you hear affects every area of life, so it’s an important consideration! Here is a list of five hearing resolutions for 2020.

Let’s start off 2020 right!

  1. Make an appointment for your yearly hearing test

An annual hearing screening is the most effective, easiest thing you can do to protect your hearing health. Most insurance plans cover this annual visit. It’s quick, painless and it will give you a great idea of the status of your hearing health!

Studies show that people who faithfully keep annual hearing evaluation appointments have better hearing overall. This is because they are catching any hearing loss early and are able to effectively stop the progression of hearing loss using a variety of methods. There is no reason not to do hearing screenings, so book your appointment today!

  1. Get healthy (and hearing healthy!)

Overall health is closely tied to hearing health! The resolutions you’ve already made to exercise regularly and eat more fresh foods will contribute to hearing health as well! It’s just one more reason to keep that healthy resolution!

  1. Protect your future hearing

Most hearing loss is due to loud noise, which is cumulative. So, what you do every day matters! Buy earplugs and carry them with you wherever you go. You may already plan for events that you know will be loud, like sporting events or clubs, but making a habit of carrying earplugs will protect your hearing in an unexpected situation!

Earplugs are inexpensive and you can buy them anywhere, so buy a pair or two today and be prepared!

  1. Exercise your brain!

You may or may not know that our brains do most of the work when it comes to hearing. Brain exercises like puzzles or debates is a great way to work out your brain, keeping it active. This will do a world of good for your hearing as well!

  1. Optimize your hearing

Hearing aids are a great tool to not only help you to hear better now, but they can help keep your brain active in order to prevent further loss. If you have minor hearing damage, hearing aids are a great investment to prevent it from getting worse.

Like everything else, the technology in hearing aids is moving fast. Even if you already have hearing devices, look into the latest developments in smart hearing aids—you may be surprised what the latest hearing devices do! You may be due for an upgrade: come in today to check them out!
