Hearing Aids Tailored To Your Life!

Over 10,000 lives transformed
since 1996 in Silicon Valley

Hearing loss is a big issue in the United States. About 48 million Americans (20%) report hearing loss of some kind. As we age, the percentages rise: approximately 33 percent of adults over 65 experience hearing loss. And will hearing loss come consequences: lost productivity (and compensation) at work, diminished communication with peers resulting in a less active social life, and even depression.

Because loss of hearing has such a big impact on our emotional, social and mental health, and because there is currently no cure that will reverse hearing loss, prevention becomes more important than ever in the fight against hearing impairment.

There are several types of hearing loss, all with different causes. The good news is that there are things you can do to help prevent future impairment of your hearing!

Get Moving!

Exercise is beneficial to all structures of the body, especially the ears, because it keeps blood flowing. The ears contain tiny capillaries that need constant blood flow to remain healthy and active, especially as we age. Any type of exercise will do: just warming up your body with a few stretching exercises and taking a walk around the block will get that blood flowing and protect your hearing.

Besides being a boon to healthy hearing, exercise offers a host of other benefits for your whole body, including brain health, mood, skin, anti-aging, heightened immunity, faster recovery from illness, and better results in weight loss efforts.

The good news is you don’t have to spend an hour in the gym every day. Just moving around throughout the day has drastic benefits. Circuit-training and hiit exercises help you get your heart rate up in short bursts, with routines as quick as 5-8 minutes per day.

As we age, however, getting our hear rates high isn’t always recommended– light exercise is also very beneficial. Listen to your body and don’t push yourself too hard.

Walking is underrated and is one of the best ways to keep your body moving throughout the day. If you sit a lot, try to take a break every 30 minutes or so to just walk around your building or your house. And once or twice a day, walk up and down the street. You’ll get a little fresh air, a little exercise, and your mood and perspective will lift as you broaden your focus past your computer screen or television.

Other Ways to Protect Hearing

Exercise is great, but it is not the only key to the puzzle to protect hearing and overall health. Always eat a healthy diet, full of fresh, whole foods and eliminating as much processed and junk food as possible. Always avoid loud noises when you can, and practice listening skills to “train your brain” to listen better.

Los Gatos Audiology is here to help you protect your hearing and your health. Call today and come in for your yearly hearing exam so you can stay ahead of the curve and protect your hearing, your brain and your health.

I've been a client of Christine Throm for over 10 years (and 3 moves... you always stay with the best). She is a VERY dedicated professional, she is knowledgeable, and caring. My hearing loss has never been managed more effectively and the she has access to the latest and most advanced technologies. She has personally selected her staff to reflect her own values and high standards. Everyone there is friendly helpful. To top it off, they are now conveniently located adjacent to the "Mission Oaks" campus of Good Sam in a suite of beautiful, "state-of-the-art" offices. She is the GREATEST! Enough said.

Dr. Christine Throm was very knowledgeable and thorough. After one visit I understood what my hearing losses are and what I could expect from hearing aids. I have visited other audiologists with poorer results. I will be returning to Los Gatos Audiology.
